University of Chicago deferred acceptance rate?

Hi all, I'm applying to UChicago and considering applying Early Action. Let's say I get deferred, does anyone know from past experiences or data what the deferred acceptance rate is like for UChicago? Thanks in advance!

The University of Chicago does not publish specific data regarding the acceptance rate for deferred applicants. However, it is generally understood that the acceptance rate for deferred applicants is lower than the overall acceptance rate, as you'll be competing with a larger pool of candidates during the Regular Decision cycle.

If you feel that your application is strong now, applying Early Action can increase your chances of admission since colleges generally have higher acceptance rates during the early cycles. If you apply EA and are deferred, keep in mind that UChicago will reevaluate your application within the context of the large Regular Decision pool, which can be highly competitive.

In the event that you are deferred, don't be disheartened. Use that time to strengthen your application further—continue to do well in your senior year classes, take part in meaningful extracurricular activities, and update UChicago about any significant achievements or improvements in your profile. Demonstrating your continued interest in the school is important for deferred applicants. A well-written and thoughtful letter outlining your interest, updates, and commitment to UChicago can make a difference when your application is reviewed again during the Regular Decision cycle.

Ultimately, it's important to have a balanced list of colleges you're interested in attending and submit strong applications to each one. That way, you can increase your chances of being admitted to a college where you'll thrive and succeed. Good luck with your application process!
