Got deferred from UChicago EA, what to do next?

So I just heard back and I got deferred from UChicago's early action round. I feel a bit stressed, and I'm wondering if any of you have advice on what I can do to improve my chances in the regular decision round? Should I write a letter of continued interest or something?

First of all, don't stress too much over being deferred; it doesn't mean a rejection, and many students receive acceptances in regular decision after being deferred. Here are some steps you can take to help improve your chances in the regular decision round:

1. Write a Letter of Continued Interest (LOCI): This letter should be concise, polite, and express your strong interest in UChicago. You can mention updates on any significant achievements or awards you've received since submitting your application.

2. Improve your academic record: If there's still time, try to raise your grades, especially in rigorous courses. Earning strong grades in the first half of your senior year can demonstrate your motivation and dedication to academic success.

3. Take or retake standardized tests: If UChicago is still accepting test scores, and if you believe you can significantly improve your score by retaking a standardized test, consider taking it again. However, only do this if you think there's a good chance of substantial improvement, as it's not guaranteed to make a significant difference.

4. Review your extracurricular activities: If you have any recent accomplishments or additional involvement in extracurricular activities, make sure to include that in your LOCI. This shows your commitment to your passions outside of the classroom.

5. Seek additional recommendations: If you have any teachers, coaches, or supervisors who can provide a unique perspective on your abilities and growth, consider asking them for an additional recommendation. However, only seek out new recommendations if they'll add something meaningful to your application.

6. Apply to other colleges: While you may have your heart set on UChicago, make sure you have a backup plan and apply to a mix of colleges that meet your interests, needs, and aspirations.

7. Finally, have patience: The regular decision process may take longer, so be patient and focus on what you can control – your application materials and continued efforts to succeed academically and outside the classroom.

Wishing you the best of luck in the regular decision round!
