John Carroll University Athletics

I'm really into sports and was just wondering about the athletic programs at John Carroll University. What kind of varsity sports do they offer? How's the overall sports culture and spirit on campus? Are there any opportunities to get involved in club or intramural sports, too?

John Carroll University (JCU) has a fairly active athletic culture, with a variety of opportunities for students to participate, compete, and support their fellow Blue Streaks. JCU is a Division III school and a member of the Ohio Athletic Conference, with 23 varsity sports for both men and women. Some of the offerings include football, basketball, soccer, track and field, swimming and diving, golf, lacrosse, and volleyball.

As for club and intramural sports, there are many options available for students who want to participate in a less competitive, yet still organized and structured, environment. Club sports at JCU range from sports like ultimate frisbee and rugby to equestrian and dance. Intramural sports, on the other hand, are for students who want a more recreational experience and usually consist of short seasons with playoffs at the end, with all the competitions being within the JCU community—you won’t compete against other institutions like you would for club or variety sports. Some examples of intramural sports offered at JCU include flag football, dodgeball, broomball, and basketball.

The overall sports culture on campus is spirited and engaged, with many students attending games and showing their school pride. John Carroll's Mascot, the Blue Streak, often greets fans at games to keep the energy high. There are also occasional special events and themed games aimed at boosting school spirit. Overall, JCU has a supportive and enthusiastic athletic culture, so if sports are important to you, you'll likely find a robust community and plenty of opportunities at John Carroll University.
