Which are the best D3 hockey schools?

I'm starting to look into colleges and I'm really interested in continuing to play hockey during college. Does anyone have suggestions for the best D3 hockey schools? Additionally, what should I consider when trying to choose the right D3 school for me? Any advice is welcomed!

There are several great NCAA Division III (D3) hockey schools that you can consider! Some notable D3 men's hockey programs include the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Norwich University, Plattsburgh State, and St. Norbert College. For women's hockey, consider schools such as Middlebury College, Elmira College, Plattsburgh State, Wisconsin-River Falls, and Adrian College.

When choosing the right D3 school for you, consider the following factors:

1. Fit: Try to evaluate whether the school meets your personal, academic, and extracurricular needs. Look for schools that have strong academic programs in your areas of interest and offer hockey programs that suit your skill level and playing goals.

2. Coaching Staff: As you'll spend a significant amount of time under the guidance of your college hockey coach, dig into the coaching staff's backgrounds and philosophies. You can even try reaching out to current players or alumni of the hockey team to gain insight into the team atmosphere and coaching style.

3. Location: College location matters for both your college experience and hockey playing. Some areas have more established hockey cultures and greater levels of competition than others. Additionally, think about climate, proximity to friends and family, and your own comfort level in exploring new areas.

4. Alumni Network: The connections you make during your college years can prove invaluable down the line. Research the school's alumni network and see if there is a strong presence of alumni in the hockey community or in your field of study.

5. Financial Considerations: Make sure you can comfortably afford the cost of attendance while also taking into account any possible scholarships, financial aid, or student loans.

6. Opportunities outside of hockey: Since you'll be attending college primarily for an education, consider what each school offers in terms of internships, research opportunities, study-abroad programs, and other activities that could enrich your overall experience.

Remember to visit the schools and speak with the coaches, players, and admissions staff to get a feel for each institution. The best hockey school for you will be the one where you can excel academically and athletically while enjoying your overall college experience.
