Recommendations for top collegiate wrestling programs?

I'm a high school wrestler and I want to continue in college. Can anyone suggest some top collegiate wrestling programs? Any tips on the recruiting process or what to expect at the college level would be awesome!

Well, there are certainly plenty of great collegiate wrestling programs to consider. A few of the most successful and renowned ones include Penn State, University of Iowa, Oklahoma State, Cornell, and Ohio State, which all have strong histories of success in Division I wrestling. However, there are many other strong programs, so be sure to research further and find the best fit for you academically and athletically.

As for the recruiting process, the first step is to create a wrestling resume that includes your weight class, win-loss record, accomplishments, rankings, and tournament participation/finishes. Reach out to college coaches with a personalized email expressing your interest in their program and attach your wrestling resume. Be sure to also highlight any academic accomplishments, as college coaches will be interested in both your athletic and academic potential.

It's important to be proactive, so attend wrestling camps, clinics, and tournaments where college coaches may be present. This will allow you to increase your visibility, network with coaches, and potentially receive direct feedback on your performance.

At the college level, you can expect wrestling to be more rigorous and competitive compared to high school. College coaches will expect you to be disciplined, focused, and dedicated to the sport. The level of commitment required is higher as you'll be practicing more often, participating in more intense workouts, and managing a busy schedule with academics and other college responsibilities. To prepare, start focusing on improving your conditioning, strength, and technique, and pay attention to nutrition and recovery.

Finally, be sure to research each wrestling program's culture, coaching style, and team dynamic, as finding the right fit is crucial for your success and enjoyment of the sport in college. Good luck!
