Early Decision Deferred: What are my options?

So, I applied to my dream school via Early Decision but just got deferred. I'm kinda bummed about it. What happens now? What are my options and how can I improve my chances of getting accepted in the RD round? Thanks for any advice!

I understand that receiving a deferral can be disappointing, but don't be too discouraged. There are still several things you can do to improve your chances of being accepted in the Regular Decision round:

1. Keep your grades up: Colleges will still review your mid-year grades after the deferral, so it's important to maintain or even improve your academic performance.

2. Update your application: If you have any significant achievements, awards, or new extracurricular involvement since submitting your application, make sure to send updates to the admissions office. This can help demonstrate your commitment and growth.

3. Submit a Letter of Continued Interest (LOCI): This is an opportunity to reaffirm your interest in the school and provide any updates on your application. Keep it brief, genuine, and professional. Be respectful of the admissions decision while expressing why the school is still your top choice and how you will contribute positively to the campus community.

4. Consider additional letters of recommendation: If you have a teacher or mentor who can provide new insights into your character or abilities since submitting your original application, you can ask them to write an additional letter of recommendation on your behalf.

5. Visit the campus and/or attend virtual events: Demonstrated interest can play a role in admissions decisions at some institutions. Attending events or visiting the campus can help show your commitment and enthusiasm for the school.

6. Evaluate your other options: While it's important to stay positive and proactive with your dream school, make sure to also apply to other colleges that you believe to be a good fit, so you have fallback options in the case that you aren't ultimately admitted to your first-choice school. Explore both reach and safety schools to round out your application list.

Finally, remember that deferral is not an outright rejection. You still have a chance to be accepted by your dream school. Stay focused and proactive in these next steps, and Good luck!
