When should I ask for recommendation letters?

Hey guys, I'm a junior and I know I'll need recommendation letters for my college applications. When should I ask my teachers for these letters? I don't want to ask too early or too late. Thanks for any advice!

Hi there! It's great that you're thinking about recommendation letters early on. From my experience with my child who recently went through the college application process, it's generally a good idea to start requesting recommendation letters during the spring of your junior year or the very beginning of your senior year. This gives your teachers enough time to write thoughtful letters without feeling rushed. If you have a specific teacher in mind who you think will write a strong letter for you, you might want to approach them earlier, especially if you know they're popular among students and might be asked by many others. Remember to provide them with your resume or a list of your accomplishments and activities, so they have a better understanding of your strengths and can write a more personalized letter. Good luck with your college applications!
