ASA College Nursing program – thoughts?

Hey everyone, I came across the nursing program at ASA College and I'm curious to know more. I'm a junior, starting my college search, and nursing seems interesting. Is their program any good? Has anyone here had any experiences or heard anything about it?

Hello! ASA College is a private, for-profit institution with campuses in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Miami that offers Nursing programs at the associate's and bachelor's levels. Overall, the school targets students who want to pursue nursing but are particularly interested in starting their careers more quickly than a traditional bachelor's degree would allow.

From a practical standpoint, the associate's degree in Nursing (ADN) allows graduates to take the NCLEX-RN exam and become a registered nurse (RN) more quickly compared to completing a four-year bachelor's program. The benefit here is that you could enter the workforce faster and gain nursing experience. Later on, if you decide you want to advance your career further, you can consider pursuing completion programs for an RN-to-BSN degree, which would provide you with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

However, it's essential to keep in mind that, as a for-profit institution, ASA College can be more expensive than other public or nonprofit schools and community colleges offering similar nursing programs. Also, for-profit institutions often lack the prestige that nonprofit and public schools may have. This being said, it's crucial to look at the NCLEX pass rate, accreditation, and any clinical placement opportunities for a better understanding of the program's quality.

Before making any decisions, you should compare ASA College's nursing program to other options in your region. Look for alternatives such as Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AASN) programs at community colleges or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs at 4-year institutions. Assess factors like cost, program duration, clinical experiences, and post-graduation support to determine which option may be the best fit for you.

Remember, the nursing field has various paths, and it's essential to thoroughly research and compare programs. Good luck with your college search and your journey into nursing!
