Is it better to submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher or a coach?

Hello! I'm a junior starting to think about college applications, and I'm not sure who to ask for a letter of recommendation. I have a really good relationship with both my English teacher and my soccer coach. Which one would be better for my application? Thanks in advance!

Hi there! It's great that you're already thinking about college applications. Both your English teacher and soccer coach could potentially write you a good letter of recommendation. However, I would lean towards asking your English teacher for a couple of reasons. First, colleges typically prefer academic recommendations, as they can speak to your abilities in the classroom and your potential as a student at their institution. Your English teacher would be able to discuss your writing and critical thinking skills, which are highly valued in college. Second, if you're applying to a college where you're not planning to play soccer, your coach's recommendation might not be as relevant. If you're still unsure, consider the strength of each relationship and who can better speak to your character and work ethic. You might also want to think about asking both your teacher and coach and then submit the one you feel is stronger. Ultimately, the most important thing is to have a letter from someone who knows you well and can give a detailed and positive account of your abilities and character. Best of luck with your applications!
