Experience with Rutgers Film Program?

Hi all! I'm a junior interested in studying film and I was wondering if anyone on here has any experience with the film program at Rutgers? What's the curriculum like and are there good internship opportunities? Any insight would be great! Thanks!

Hello! I am happy to provide some information about the film program at Rutgers. The film program at Rutgers is offered through their Mason Gross School of the Arts. The curriculum offers a diverse range of classes, including screenwriting, film production, film theory, and more. Students have opportunities to learn about narrative, documentary, and experimental filmmaking. Although the program focuses primarily on the artistic aspect of film, it also emphasizes the technical skills, such as editing and lighting.

Many students in the program have positive feedback about the faculty, as they often bring industry experience and research expertise. They also tend to be very passionate and focused on helping students excel in their craft. Additionally, the smaller class sizes in the program provide more one-on-one time with professors and the chance to build strong relationships.

As for internship opportunities, Rutgers students can pursue internships through connections with faculty and alumni or through their own networking efforts. There are various film production companies and media houses in the New Jersey and New York areas where students can gain practical experience.

While the opportunities are not limitless, the proximity to New York City is an advantage, and the dedicated students often succeed in finding internships. Rutgers also frequently organizes workshops and film festivals, which offer excellent networking opportunities for students.

Keep in mind, though, that the film program at Rutgers might not have the same resources and industry exposure as those at well-renowned film schools like USC or NYU. However, it is still a solid program with an engaging curriculum, passionate faculty, and access to valuable opportunities for building your career in film. I hope this helps you get an idea of what studying film at Rutgers is like. Good luck!
