UOP Computer Science - Worth Applying?

I've been searching for colleges with good computer science programs, and the University of the Pacific caught my attention. I can't find much information about their program, though. Anyone here know about it or have experiences with their computer science department? Would appreciate any info!

The University of the Pacific is a smaller private university, so their computer science program might not be as well-known as those at larger schools or those with dedicated engineering colleges. However, that doesn't mean it's not worth considering. In a smaller program like UOP's, you may have some advantages, such as better access to professors, smaller class sizes, and more personalized attention.

Although their CS program may not be as highly ranked as those at top-tier universities, it does offer a wide variety of courses in areas like software engineering, artificial intelligence, web development, and more. The three formal concentrations within the major are graphics & simulation, networking & computer security, and software development

UOP also has connections with employers in the tech industry, which can be helpful when looking for internships and job opportunities. For example, the university's location in Stockton, CA, places you not too far from the Silicon Valley, so you'll have relatively easy access to numerous tech companies and networking opportunities.

However, it's essential to consider your goals, preferences, and the factors you value most when choosing a computer science program. If prestige and an extensive alumni network are important to you, you may want to consider other, more prominent computer science programs. But if a more intimate setting and personalized attention appeal to you, then UOP might be worth exploring.

As you continue your research, look for current students or alumni who could provide insight into their experiences with UOP's computer science department. Online forums like Reddit or LinkedIn can sometimes provide valuable first-hand perspectives. Additionally, don't forget to consider attending college fairs, virtual open houses, or campus visits if you have the opportunity, so you can ask more about the program, campus life, and research opportunities.

In summary, while the University of the Pacific's computer science program may not be as well-known as some others, it can still be a solid option depending on your preferences and priorities. Make sure to research further, connect with current students or alumni, and explore similar programs to make the best decision for your needs and aspirations, personally as well as academically. Best of luck with your future computer science endeavors!
