Is it better to take harder classes or get better grades?

Hello! I'm a junior, and I'm trying to decide on my course load for next year. I want to challenge myself, but I'm worried about my grades suffering if I take too many difficult classes. In the eyes of colleges, is it better to take harder classes and potentially get lower grades, or take easier classes and get better grades? Thanks for your input!

Hi there! It's great that you're being proactive in planning your course load. As someone who's been through this process with my own child, I can share some insight. Colleges generally like to see students who challenge themselves with a rigorous curriculum. However, they also want to see that you can handle the workload and maintain good grades. It's important to strike a balance between challenging courses and maintaining a strong GPA. One approach to consider is taking a mix of both advanced and regular classes, allowing you to challenge yourself while still having some breathing room to excel in your studies. My advice would be to talk to your school counselor and get their input on your specific situation. They can help you find the right balance that will be most beneficial for your college applications. Best of luck!
