How is Florida State's Campus Safety?

Hey guys, I'm considering Florida State for college, but one concern I have is campus safety. Can current or former students share their experiences with campus safety measures, such as security, blue light systems, and general atmosphere? Thank you!

Hey!

Florida State's campus safety is an important concern, and it's great that you're thinking about it. Overall, Florida State University (FSU) is known to have a relatively safe campus environment with some standard safety measures in place.

For example, FSU has a dedicated police department focused on campus security. The FSU Police Department (FSUPD) operates 24/7 and provides a variety of services such as emergency response, crime prevention, and security patrols around campus. FSUPD also offers a free safety app called "SeminoleSAFE" for students to access resources and report incidents directly from their smartphones.

The blue light emergency phone system is installed throughout the campus, to provide students with direct communication to FSUPD in case of emergencies. These blue light phones are easily visible and located along frequently used pathways to ensure students have immediate access to help if needed.

Despite these safety measures, it's crucial to be aware of your surroundings and take personal safety precautions like traveling in groups, especially late at night. FSU does provide a free nighttime transportation service called Nole Cab, and a Student Alert Force Escort Connection, for students who need a safe ride back to their residence, which further helps to ensure a safe campus atmosphere.

While no campus can guarantee complete safety, FSU has taken meaningful steps to create a secure environment for its students. However, perception of safety can be subjective, so I recommend visiting the campus and speaking with current students to get a better understanding of their experiences with campus safety, and how safe you personally would feel on FSU's campus.

Best of luck with your decision-making process!
