Communications major at Clemson or Tulane?

Hey everyone! I am considering majoring in Communications and I’ve narrowed down my choices to Clemson University and Tulane University. Any advice on which school has a better program, internship opportunities, and job prospects? Would love to hear about your experiences. Thanks!

Hello! Both Clemson University and Tulane University have strong communications programs, but they do have some differences which may help you make a decision.

At Clemson, the Department of Communication offers a solid foundation in communication theories and practical application. The department emphasizes career development through hands-on experiences such as internships, undergraduate research, and student organizations, including the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) and Lambda Pi Eta (Communication Honor Society). Clemson has strong ties to local and regional businesses, which can provide opportunities for internships and jobs after graduation.

On the other hand, Tulane University's School of Liberal Arts offers a Communication major with various concentrations, such as Media Studies, Political Communication, and Digital Media Production. This flexibility allows students to tailor their education to their specific interests. Tulane's location in New Orleans provides a unique cultural setting, which can offer diverse internship opportunities in fields such as media, film, journalism, and public relations. Furthermore, Tulane's connections with film production companies and local media outlets can help expand job prospects for graduates.

When considering internship opportunities, remember that both schools have career service centers to help connect you with potential internships. However, the size and scope of the opportunities may vary depending on the school and its location.

As for job prospects, both universities have established alumni networks that can be valuable when job searching. Graduates from both schools have gone on to work in numerous communication-related fields, such as public relations, journalism, marketing, and media production.

Ultimately, the choice between Clemson and Tulane may come down to factors such as location, campus environment, and your specific interests within the field of communications. It's a good idea to visit both campuses (if possible) to get a feel for the atmosphere and talk to current students and faculty in the respective communications departments to learn more about their programs. Identifying which program aligns with your goals the most is important, as it will ensure you get the most out of your education. Good luck with your decision!
