Getting into FIT for Marketing?

Hey everyone, I'm really interested in the marketing program at the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC. Does anyone have any advice on what they look for in applicants? And would you recommend this program to someone passionate about marketing and fashion?

Hey there! It's great to hear that you're interested in the marketing program at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). It's definitely a well-regarded program for those passionate about marketing and fashion. To maximize your chances of getting accepted, there are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Academics: Having a strong academic foundation is crucial for success at FIT. Make sure you maintain a good GPA and take rigorous courses in high school, especially in English, Math, and Business, if available. FIT does not require SAT or ACT scores, but if you have good scores, you can submit them as optional.

2. Extracurriculars: FIT values students who are involved and passionate about their interests. Involvement in fashion, marketing, or business-related clubs, internships, or activities will strengthen your application. Think about starting a blog or working at a retail store, as these experiences would demonstrate your passion for marketing and fashion.

3. Portfolio: Although a portfolio is not required for the marketing program at FIT, including one can make your application stand out. As a marketing student, you can showcase any creative marketing campaigns, branding projects, or other design work you've done to give the admissions team a better sense of your work.

4. Personal Essay: FIT requires a personal essay as part of the application. Use this opportunity to discuss your passion for marketing and fashion, and how you see yourself fitting into FIT's community. Share personal experiences and how they have shaped your desire to pursue marketing in the fashion industry. Avoid generic statements and make sure the essay is well-edited and concise.

5. Letters of Recommendation: FIT will require two letters of recommendation, so identify teachers, employers, or mentors who can speak to your passion for marketing and your ability to succeed in the program. It would be ideal if the recommenders have experience or knowledge in the marketing or fashion industries.

To answer your second question, if you're passionate about both marketing and fashion, this program would be an excellent choice for you. FIT's marketing program is designed to give students a deep understanding of marketing strategies, consumer behavior, and market research, all within the context of the fashion industry. Additionally, FIT's location in NYC provides ample opportunities for networking, internships, and hands-on experience with fashion brands and companies.

Best of luck with your application!
