What factors do colleges consider when making admission decisions?

Hi all! I'm a junior and I'm curious about what factors colleges consider when making admission decisions. I know GPA and test scores are important, but what else do they look at? Thanks for any information!

Hi there! It's great that you're starting to think about the college admissions process early. You're right that GPA and test scores play a significant role in admissions decisions, but there's more to it than just those numbers.

Colleges also consider your extracurricular activities, leadership roles, community service, and any part-time jobs or internships you may have had. They want to see a well-rounded student who is engaged in their community and has a variety of interests.

Your essays and personal statements are important as well because they give admissions officers a glimpse into your personality, values, and goals. Make sure to spend adequate time on these to showcase your authentic self.

Additionally, most colleges require letters of recommendation from teachers and/or counselors. These letters can help shed light on your character and work ethic. It's essential to develop strong relationships with your recommenders so they can speak genuinely about your strengths. Best of luck in your college search!
