Can I apply for both Early Action and Regular Decision?

Hey everyone, I'm thinking of applying for Early Action at one college and Regular Decision at others. Is it possible to apply for both, or do I have to choose one or the other? What are the pros and cons of each? Thanks!

Hello! It's definitely possible to apply for Early Action at one college and Regular Decision at others. In fact, many students choose to do so for a variety of reasons.

Early Action typically has an earlier deadline (usually in November) and offers the benefit of receiving an admission decision earlier than Regular Decision applicants (often in December). This can be helpful in planning for college, and since Early Action is non-binding, you're not obligated to enroll if you're accepted. It also shows the college that you're genuinely interested in attending.

Regular Decision gives you more time to work on your application materials, gather recommendation letters, and finalize your college list. You'll have until the spring to make your final college decision, so you can compare financial aid packages and other factors before committing.

Applying Early Action can be a good strategy if you have a strong application ready to submit early, and if you're not set on any particular college. However, it's important to remember that an Early Action acceptance is not a guarantee, and you may still need to submit additional Regular Decision applications. Best of luck!
