What are the consequences of plagiarizing on a college application essay?

Just out of curiosity, I was wondering what might happen if someone were caught plagiarizing an essay for their college application. I've heard a few stories about students being caught, and I am genuinely curious about the consequences. Thanks for any info!

Plagiarizing on a college application essay is a serious offense that can have long-lasting implications. If an applicant is caught plagiarizing, the college's admissions committee is likely to reject their application immediately. This demonstrates a lack of integrity and academic dishonesty, both of which are qualities that colleges do not seek in their student body.

Even if an applicant gets accepted to a college before their plagiarism is discovered, they may still face severe consequences. If the plagiarism is discovered after acceptance, the college may rescind their admissions offer. In the worst-case scenario, if a student is already enrolled, the college could expel them or revoke any earned credits or degrees.

Plagiarizing is never worth the risk, and it is always better to put in the honest effort and create original content.
