Barnard SAT Requirements

Hi! I'm wondering if Barnard has any specific SAT score requirements or if they're test-optional. I want to make sure I'm preparing myself correctly for the application process.

Barnard College currently has a test-optional policy in place, which was originally implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This policy means that you can choose whether to submit your SAT scores or not. If you believe your SAT scores are strong and accurately represent your abilities, you can include them in your application. If you think your scores do not represent your potential, you can choose not to submit them, and your application will not be at a disadvantage.

However, Barnard is quite a selective school, and at such institutions you generally want to convey your strengths in as many ways as possible, which means investing time and energy into aiming for a high score on the SAT (or ACT) would likely be worth your while. For more detailed guidance on how to navigate test-optional policies, check out this blog post from CollegeVine: https://blog.collegevine.com/does-test-optional-mean-test-optional/

However, many colleges have lately been re-evaluating their test-optional policies, with some of Barnard's peer institutions choosing to eliminate them and return to requiring all applicants to submit a standardized test score. To stay updated, regularly check Barnard's admissions website to make sure you're aware of their latest requirements, and don't hesitate to reach to reach out to the admissions office directly for clarification on anything - they're there to help, after all!

On another note, if you are an international student, keep in mind that Barnard still requires an English proficiency test, such as TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English Test if your native language is not English or if your schooling's primary language of instruction is not English.

In any case, at selective schools like Barnard, you always want to have a well-rounded application, which includes strong grades, solid essays, and meaningful extracurricular activities. If you're looking for tips on how to ensure your overall application is as strong as possible, you can check out this blog post from CollegeVine, which breaks down how to tackle Barnard's school-specific supplemental essay prompts: https://blog.collegevine.com/how-to-write-the-barnard-college-essays/

Best of luck in your college application journey!
