Do I need to have a high school job or internship?

Hey everyone, I'm a junior, and I've been wondering if having a high school job or internship is important for college admissions. Is it something that's expected, or can I focus on other aspects of my application? Thanks for any advice!

Hi there! Having a high school job or internship can certainly be beneficial for your college applications, but it's not a requirement. Colleges are looking for students who have a variety of experiences under their belts. So, if you have other extracurricular activities that you're passionate about and have shown commitment to, that can be just as valuable in the eyes of admissions officers.

Additionally, a job or internship can help you develop important life skills like time management, responsibility, and teamwork, which will be valuable in college and beyond. If you feel that you have the time and interest to pursue a job or internship without sacrificing your academic performance or other commitments, it may be a great addition to your application.

However, if you have other priorities that you think will better showcase your talents and interests, focusing on those is perfectly fine as well. Ultimately, it's all about creating a strong application that gives admissions officers a sense of who you are and what you have to offer. Good luck!
