Accounting Major at Brown University?

Hey y'all! So I'm seriously considering accounting as my future career path, and I've been researching schools that have a strong program. Does anyone have any experience or insight into Brown University's accounting major? Is it worth applying to Brown for this? Thanks!

Brown University is an excellent institution, but it may not be the best choice for pursuing an accounting major. Brown does not offer an undergraduate accounting program. However, they do have an economics concentration, with an option to focus on finance, which could provide some exposure to accounting principles.

If you're set on becoming an accountant, you may want to consider other institutions known for their strong accounting programs. Some schools to consider include the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Brigham Young University (BYU), or the University of Texas at Austin. These schools have well-regarded accounting programs and connections with accounting firms that can help lead to internships and job opportunities.

That said, it's essential to weigh the importance of the specific major against other factors, such as overall school reputation, location, social environment, and resources. If you find Brown's open curriculum, campus experience, and community extremely appealing, you could still consider attending and potentially studying finance within the economics concentration. You may need to pursue additional coursework or certifications (like a CPA) after graduation to become an accountant, though.

Ultimately, the choice is yours, but if accounting is your primary interest, you might want to explore other universities with dedicated accounting programs.
