UCSB Journalism Program?

Hey guys, I'm considering applying to UCSB and I'm interested in studying journalism. Does UCSB have a journalism program or something similar? If so, how is it overall and what are the opportunities for student publications or internships?

UC Santa Barbara (UCSB) does not offer a standalone journalism major, but they do have a Communication major, which covers various aspects of media, communication theory, and research methods. This program can provide you with a solid foundation in communication studies, to provide you for a career in journalism or other media-related fields.

UCSB also offers a journalism track within the Professional Writing Minor, which you could pursue alongside your major in Communication or another field.

As for student publications and internship opportunities, UCSB has an active student-run newspaper called the Daily Nexus. This newspaper provides an excellent platform for aspiring journalists like yourself to hone your writing, editing, and reporting skills. Additionally, the school's location near Los Angeles, a major media market, offers various opportunities for internships in journalism, public relations, and other communication fields.

When applying to UCSB, emphasize your interest in journalism and related extracurricular activities in your application. While it may not have a specific journalism major, the Communication program and the practical opportunities provided by student publications and internships can serve as a strong foundation for your future career in journalism.
