Do colleges care about AP or IB courses more?

Hello everyone! I'm a high school junior, and I've been wondering: do colleges prefer students who take AP courses or those who take the IB program? I've been taking a mix of both, and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or if I should focus on one. Any thoughts or advice would be really helpful!

Hey there! From my experience with my own child's college application process, I can say that colleges generally don't have a strong preference for either AP or IB courses. Both programs are respected and recognized by colleges for their rigor, and taking a mix of both can actually showcase your versatility and adaptability. What's more important is challenging yourself academically and taking the most rigorous courses available to you at your school. This demonstrates to colleges that you're willing to push yourself and can handle the workload of college-level courses. If you're enjoying both AP and IB classes and feel you can manage them without compromising your grades or other commitments, I'd say stick with the mix. Ultimately, the most important thing is to maintain a strong GPA and perform well in whichever courses you choose. Good luck with your college journey!
