Minimum SAT score for UT?

Does anyone know if there's a specific minimum SAT score that UT schools look for, like the University of Texas at Austin or University of Texas at Dallas? I'm trying to gauge if my score is good enough or if I should retake it.

There isn't a specific minimum SAT score that University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) or University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) require for admissions, as each applicant is evaluated holistically, so your SAT score will be just one piece of the overall puzzle they put together to determine what you would bring to their campus community.

However, it's helpful to look at the middle 50% range of admitted students at these schools to get a sense of what SAT scores typically look like for accepted applicants. For UT Austin, the middle 50% SAT range for admitted students is approximately 1230–1480. For UTD, it's around 1180–1410. Keep in mind that these ranges reflect the 25th percentile to the 75th percentile, so there are accepted students who score above and below them as well.

If your SAT score falls within or above these ranges, you're likely competitive in terms of test scores. If your score falls below the 25th percentile, you may want to consider retaking the SAT to improve your chances of admission.

However, it's important to remember that UT Austin and UTD also practice holistic admissions, by taking into account factors like your GPA, extracurriculars, essays, and letters of recommendation. So, even if your SAT score is lower than the middle 50% range, a strong overall application may still give you a shot at getting accepted.

If you're looking for tips on how to strengthen your overall application, check out this blog post from CollegeVine, which breaks down how to tackle the ApplyTexas essays: https://blog.collegevine.com/how-to-write-the-applytexas-essays/. After all, many students who apply to both of these institutions have strong academic credentials, and the essays are often just the thing admissions officers rely on when finalizing close decisions.

Good luck!
