Does study abroad count as an extracurricular activity?

Hey all, I'm lucky enough to have been able to participate in a study abroad program last summer. I'm not sure whether I should include this experience as an extracurricular activity on my college application or not. What do you think? And if I should include it, any tips on how to best showcase this experience? Thanks in advance!

Hi there! Congratulations on your study abroad experience. Yes, you can definitely include your study abroad program as an extracurricular activity on your college application. It shows that you've engaged in different cultures and expanded your worldview, which is something colleges love to see.

To showcase it effectively, try to emphasize the skills and experiences you gained that set you apart from other candidates. For example, you can discuss the challenges you overcame during your time abroad, how you adapted to a new environment, or the personal growth and development that occurred as a result.

Remember to also highlight any projects, volunteer work, or internships you participated in during your time abroad, as these aspects can help demonstrate your commitment and accomplishments.

Good luck with your application!
