Hi everyone, I recently took the SAT and received a 1400. I feel like it's a decent score, but I'm not sure if it's strong enough to be considered for an Ivy League school. Any advice or insight? Should I retake the test or focus on other parts of my application?
Hello! Congratulations on your 1400 SAT score. It's definitely a good score, but as you're looking to apply to Ivy League schools, it is on the lower end of their accepted score range. For instance, the middle 50% of admitted students at most Ivy League schools tend to score between 1430 and 1580, meaning most admitted students score within this range.
If you're particularly interested in Ivy League schools, it certainly wouldn't hurt to retake the SAT in hopes of achieving a higher score. That said, don't forget that admissions to these highly competitive schools are holistic, so make sure to also focus on other aspects of your application, such as your extracurricular involvement, essays, and recommendations.
For example, my child was in a similar situation and decided to retake the SAT while also strengthening their extracurriculars. In the end, they got accepted into an Ivy League school. Best of luck on your journey, and remember that there are plenty of excellent schools out there even if Ivy League doesn't work out!
