Is Stanford an Ivy League School?

Hi, y'all! Quick question: is Stanford an Ivy League school or is it just considered at the same level as those schools? I've heard people say both, so I'm confused. Thanks!

Hi there! Stanford University is not technically an Ivy League school. The Ivy League is a group of eight prestigious private universities located in the northeastern United States: Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, University of Pennsylvania, and Yale. The term "Ivy League" originated as a collegiate athletic conference but has come to represent these schools as a group characterized by their academic excellence, selective admissions, and historical reputation.

However, Stanford is indeed considered to be at the same level as Ivy League schools in terms of academic reputation, research output, and prestigious alumni. It is often mentioned alongside the Ivy League institutions in discussions about top-tier universities, both in the U.S. and globally, due to its high-quality education, world-class faculty, and outstanding resources. So, while Stanford is not an Ivy League school by definition, it certainly is on par, if not surpassing, with some of these elite institutions in several aspects.
