Thoughts on Emory Summer Programs?

I've been looking into Emory's summer programs for high schoolers and they seem pretty cool. Anyone here participated in one of these programs? What has your experience been like? And do they help with college admissions? Just trying to figure out what I should do this summer to make the most of my time before senior year begins.

I've heard from many students who have participated in Emory's summer programs and enjoyed their experience. The programs provide opportunities to explore academic interests, gain exposure to college life, and meet like-minded individuals, which can be both fun and enriching.

As for whether they'll help with college admissions, the impact of attending an Emory summer program may not be as substantial as you might expect. While participating in the program can demonstrate interest in the school and potentially allow you to get a letter of recommendation from an Emory faculty member, admissions officers generally value the meaningful pursuit of a passion or involvement in a unique extracurricular activity more than attending a summer program. Selective, low-cost, or free summer programs in your area of interest, such as HOBY or RYLA for leadership, may be more impactful on your application.

That said, attending an Emory summer program can be a great way to explore a subject you're passionate about, make connections, and get a taste of college life. Think about whether the program aligns with your interests and future goals, and weigh the costs and potential benefits. Ultimately, it's about making the best use of your summer while still enjoying yourself.
