Hey guys, I'm a high school junior and I'm pretty interested in pursuing music in college. Does anybody know anything about the music program at the University of Missouri Kansas City? I'm curious about what kind of ensembles they have, the faculty, and the overall community vibe. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! It's awesome that you're interested in pursuing music in college. The University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC) has a well-regarded music program through its Conservatory of Music and Dance. I'll try to provide you with some information about the ensembles, faculty, and community vibe.

Ensembles: UMKC offers a variety of ensembles for students to participate in, such as orchestras, bands, jazz ensembles, choirs, and chamber music groups. The Wind Symphony and Wind Ensemble are highly regarded, as well as the Conservatory Orchestra and the Conservatory Singers. Moreover, there are the 11th Street Big Band and 12th Street Jump Jazz Ensembles. Students within the program can benefit from a diverse range of performance opportunities throughout the academic year.

Faculty: UMKC's Conservatory faculty is known for being experienced and knowledgeable in their respective fields. Many of the professors have had successful careers as musicians, and they continue to perform, record, and engage with their respective fields. This offers students the opportunity to learn from active professionals who can share real-world insights and experience.

Community vibe: The overall community at the UMKC Conservatory is often described as collaborative and supportive. The Conservatory encourages interaction and collaboration among students across various disciplines, including music, composition, and dance. Additionally, the Conservatory is committed to community engagement, with programs that reach out to the local Kansas City area. This commitment often helps foster a sense of unity and purpose among students.

UMKC's Conservatory of Music and Dance is an excellent option for students who hope to pursue a degree in music. It provides a supportive environment, diverse performance opportunities, and access to experienced faculty. Before making any decisions, it might be helpful to visit the campus and explore the facilities, sit in on a class or a rehearsal, and talk to current students to see if it's the right fit for you.

I hope this helps! Good luck with your college search and your pursuit of music in the future!
