Could traveling be considered as an extracurricular activity?

Hey everyone, I'm really into traveling and have spent a good amount of my free time exploring different countries with my family. I was wondering if colleges would view this as an extracurricular or is it something they wouldn't really care about? Thanks for any advice!

Hey there! It's great that you love traveling and have had the opportunity to explore various countries with your family. Traveling can indeed be considered an extracurricular activity, but it depends on how you present it in your college application.

If you can show how traveling has had a meaningful impact on you, such as developing your language skills, gaining a better understanding of different cultures, or participating in community service projects during your trips, it could definitely be more valuable to colleges. For instance, my child combined their passion for traveling with their love for volunteering, which they included as an extracurricular in their application.

However, if you only include traveling as a leisure activity without demonstrating personal growth or a contribution to your community, it won't have the same impact, and is best left off your application. Just remember to emphasize the skills and experiences you've gained from your travels if you do include it in your app. Good luck with your college applications!
