Is it okay to submit the same essay for multiple scholarship applications?

I'm applying for several scholarships and some of the essay prompts are pretty similar. Is it acceptable to submit the same essay for multiple scholarships, or should I write a unique one for each? I don't want to hurt my chances by submitting the same essay. Thanks for any advice!

Hi there! It's great to hear that you're applying for multiple scholarships. I can understand the concern about submitting the same essay, but I believe that it's generally acceptable to reuse essays for similar prompts, as long as you make sure to tailor them to each specific scholarship application.

When my child was applying for scholarships, we found that many essay prompts did have overlapping themes. What we did was create a strong base essay and then modify it slightly to fit each scholarship's requirements. This way, the essay still feels unique and personalized for each application.

Of course, if the prompts are vastly different, it's better to write a new essay to better address the specific question. Just make sure to proofread and edit each version carefully so that your essay remains polished and relevant. Good luck with your scholarship applications!
