Would a study abroad experience count as an extracurricular activity?

Hey everyone, I'm a high school junior and I did a study abroad program last summer. Is this something I can include as an extracurricular activity on my college applications or should I mention it elsewhere? Thanks for your help!

Hi there! It's great to hear that you participated in a study abroad program last summer. Study abroad experiences can certainly be included as extracurricular activities on your college applications, especially because they often involve elements of cultural exchange, language learning, and personal growth.

Usually, colleges have a section called 'Activities' or 'Extracurriculars' in their applications, and that's where you can mention your study abroad program. Make sure to highlight the skills you gained, as well as any projects you might have worked on or achievements you earned during your time abroad.

For example, if you participated in a community service project while you were overseas, or if your program had a specific academic component, be sure to mention those details. That will help show admissions officers how your study abroad experience contributed to your personal, academic, and professional development.

Best of luck with your college applications, and feel free to reach out if you have any other questions!
