Hey everyone! I'm a high school junior and I'm really interested in applying to Southern Methodist University. Do they require SAT scores for the admissions process or have they gone test-optional? I'd appreciate any insights.
Hello! Southern Methodist University (SMU) has adopted a test-optional policy for students applying for first-year admission for the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 academic years. This means that you have the option to choose whether or not to submit your SAT scores as part of your application. If you feel that your SAT scores accurately reflect your academic abilities and would strengthen your application, you can include them. However, if you believe your SAT scores do not represent your academic potential or you were unable to take the SAT due to COVID-19 disruptions, you can still apply without submitting test scores.
SMU will review test-optional applications holistically, considering factors such as your high school transcript, GPA, essays, letters of recommendation, and extracurricular activities. Just make sure to clearly indicate your test-optional preference when completing your application.
Good luck with the application process!
