Does applying for financial aid hurt my chances of getting in?

Hey guys, I'm a little stressed because I'll definitely need financial aid to attend college. I've heard that applying for aid can hurt your chances of getting in, especially at need-aware schools. Is this true? Thanks for any help!

Hi there! It's completely understandable that you're feeling stressed about the financial aspect of college, but remember that many students are in the same boat. When it comes to applying for financial aid, it's important to know that there are two types of schools: need-blind and need-aware.

Need-blind schools do not consider your ability to pay when making admissions decisions, so applying for financial aid will not impact your chances of getting in. However, need-aware schools may take your financial situation into account, which could potentially impact your admission chances. That being said, it's important to note that colleges still want to maintain a diverse student body and often work to accommodate students with financial needs.

Additionally, there are many schools that are committed to meeting 100% of demonstrated need for their admitted students, so do some research on the financial aid policies of the colleges you're interested in. Ultimately, it's important to prioritize finding a college that is a good fit for you academically, socially, and financially. Best of luck with your college search and application process!
