UW-Milwaukee Math Department?

I'm thinking of applying to UW-Milwaukee, and I'm curious about their math department. Can anyone tell me about the quality of the professors, class sizes, and student support? Thanks in advance!

From what I've gathered, the math department at UW-Milwaukee is quite strong and offers a solid foundation for students interested in pursuing mathematics. Professors in the department are generally considered knowledgeable, approachable, and dedicated to their students' success. Like any university, you may find a mix of professor quality, so it's a good idea to check professor ratings on sites like RateMyProfessors to get an idea of your potential instructors' teaching styles and strengths, and which ones align well with your learning preferences.

Class sizes in the math department can vary, with lower-level and general education courses tending to have larger classes, sometimes even over 100 students. However, as you progress in your studies and take more advanced, specialized courses, you'll generally find that class sizes get smaller, and allow you to get more individualized attention from professors and have greater opportunities for collaboration with your peers.

Student support in the math department seems to be notable as well. UW-Milwaukee offers drop-in math tutoring, which is an excellent resource for ensuring you get the necessary help outside of class, as well as a chance to connect with your fellow math students. Additionally, the math department offers undergraduate research opportunities and encourages students to attend or even present at math conferences as a way to enhance their academic experience and prepare for graduate studies or careers in the field.

Overall, the math department at UW-Milwaukee has its strengths and many students have had positive experiences within the program. It's essential to visit the campus if possible and talk to current students and faculty in the department to get a better, firsthand sense of the environment and support available before making your decision.

Finally, if you're looking for ways to pursue your passion for math while still in high school, check out this blog post from CollegeVine, which lists a range of math-related summer programs for high schoolers: https://blog.collegevine.com/high-school-math-summer-programs/. Participating in one could even give you a boost during the college process, as admissions officers love to see that you're taking initiative and exploring your interests outside of the classroom!

Good luck!
