Should I retake the ACT if I have a 33?

I just got a 33 on the ACT, and I'm considering retaking it to get a higher score. I'm planning to apply to schools like Carnegie Mellon and Northwestern, and I'm worried that my current score is not competitive enough. Should I retake it, or just focus on other parts of my application?

Congratulations on your 33 on the ACT! That's already a great score. While it may be tempting to retake it, I think it's essential to consider the time and effort required to improve your score. Also, keep in mind that the 50th percentile range at Carnegie Mellon and Northwestern is 33-35, so you're right within the range. It's obviously better to be at the higher end of the range, but a 33 is still great and shouldn't disqualify you from getting your app reviewed.

If you think you can get a higher score with low to moderate effort, it may be worth trying again. However, remember that colleges look at the whole applicant, not just their test scores. If you feel that other parts of your application may be lacking, it might be more beneficial to spend time working on those areas instead.

Best of luck!
