BYU Acceptance Requirements?

Hey everyone! I'm looking into applying to BYU-Provo and was wondering what their acceptance requirements are. Are there any specific GPA or standardized test score benchmarks that I should aim for? Any info would be appreciated, thanks!

Hello! BYU-Provo is an excellent school, and it's great that you're considering applying there. While the university does not have strict cut-off points for GPA or standardized test scores, they do have average stats for admitted students that can give you a sense of what they're looking for in candidate profiles.

For GPA, the average high school GPA for accepted students is around 3.86 (on a 4.0 scale). This is just an average - students with slightly lower GPAs could still be admitted based on other strengths in their application, while having a GPA higher than the average is always a good thing. Bear in mind that BYU does consider your course rigor along with your GPA, so taking challenging courses like AP or IB classes will further boost your competitiveness.

Regarding standardized test scores, BYU has adopted a test-optional policy for the 2023-2024 application cycle. This means you can choose whether to submit your SAT or ACT scores as part of your application. If you do decide to submit your scores, note that the middle 50% of admitted students have an SAT range of 1210-1420 and an ACT range of 26-31. Landing within or preferably above these ranges can help improve your chances of being accepted.

Additionally, BYU-Provo, as a religious institution, considers factors such as religious affiliation, extracurricular activities connected to the Church, leadership experience, and a demonstrated commitment to their Honor Code. A strong essay, solid extracurriculars, and letters of recommendation can also bolster your application.

In summary, while there are no strict acceptance requirements, doing well academically and aligning with BYU's values can make your application more competitive. Best of luck with your application!
