Do colleges care about the rigor of our course load?

Hello! I'm a junior in high school, and I've been stressing over my course load for next year. I've taken a mix of honors and AP classes, but I'm not sure if that's enough to impress colleges. Do colleges really care about the rigor of our course load, or is it more about our overall GPA? I appreciate any advice you can give me!

Hey there! It's great to see that you're taking your course load seriously! To answer your question, yes, colleges do care about the rigor of your course load, but it's not the only factor they consider. They look at it in conjunction with your overall GPA and other aspects of your application.

Colleges like to see students who challenge themselves, so taking a mix of honors and AP classes is a good idea. However, you should only take on as much as you can handle without compromising your grades or well-being. It's all about finding the right balance. For example, my child took a mix of honors, AP, and regular classes throughout high school, and they managed to maintain a good GPA while also participating in extracurricular activities.

Of course, different colleges have different expectations, but generally speaking, they want to see that you're pushing yourself academically. So, it's a good idea to take a challenging course load while also maintaining a strong GPA. Best of luck with your college applications!
