How to improve critical reading and writing scores for the SAT?

Hello! I recently took a practice SAT and I noticed my critical reading and writing scores were lower than my math score. These sections are pretty important for the major I want to pursue (English). Does anyone have any tips on improving my critical reading and writing sections? I'm aiming for at least a 700 on each section.

Hi there! I understand your concern about improving your critical reading and writing scores for the SAT. My child experienced a similar situation when preparing for the test, and these are some tips that helped them improve their scores in these sections.

First, practice makes perfect. Try to find a variety of reading materials such as articles, op-eds, and essays that cater to different levels of difficulty. The more you read, the better you become at identifying and understanding the author's purpose, tone, and main ideas.

Second, work on vocabulary development. Familiarize yourself with common SAT vocabulary words and practice using them in your daily writing and speaking. This will enhance your skills in using context clues to decipher the meaning of unfamiliar words during the test.

Lastly, practice your writing skills! Write essays and ask for feedback from teachers, friends, or family members. Analyze the feedback and learn to address the suggested improvements in your writing.

Stay consistent with your practice, and over time, you will notice your critical reading and writing skills improve. Good luck!
