ACT Standby Fee - Is it worth it?

Hey everyone! I've been considering signing up for the ACT as a standby. I'm worried that I might not get a seat, but is the standby fee really worth it? Has anyone done it before and succeeded in getting a spot? Thanks!

Hello! Deciding whether to pay the standby fee for the ACT really depends on your situation and how urgently you need to take the test. If you're unable to find any other test dates that work for you or if you're running out of time before college application deadlines, then it might be worth a try. However, do keep in mind that there's no guarantee that you'll get a spot, and the fee is non-refundable.

Some students have had success with the standby option, while others have not. It could largely depend on the test center's capacity and the number of students who don't show up on test day. Before signing up as a standby, you might want to contact the test center and inquire about their experience with standbys to get a better idea of your chances.

Additionally, remember to also look for test centers in nearby cities or towns, as availability might be different in those locations. If you decide to go the standby route, make sure to arrive early on test day and be well-prepared, as you'll want to maximize your chances of getting a spot if one opens up. Good luck!
