How many extracurriculars do Ivy League schools expect?

What's the minimum number of extracurricular activities that Ivy League schools would like to see on an application? Is there a number where they start seeing diminishing returns? I'm feeling stressed about this and want to plan well. Thanks in advance!

It's completely understandable that you're feeling stressed about extracurriculars, but remember that quality is more important than quantity when it comes to Ivy League applications. There isn't a specific minimum number, nor is there a set number where diminishing returns start to show. Instead, Ivy League schools are more interested in seeing a strong commitment to your chosen activities and how you've made an impact within them.

For instance, my own child was involved in just a few key activities throughout high school, but they were able to demonstrate their passion and dedication in those areas. They held leadership roles, contributed significantly, and developed their skills further than just participating casually. This allowed them to showcase a stronger application than if they had been involved in numerous activities without having a real impact.

My advice would be to focus on the activities that truly interest you and give them your best effort, rather than trying to participate in as many things as possible just to hit a certain number.
