Stony Brook SAT score requirements?

Hey guys, I'm planning on applying to Stony Brook University and I'm a little stressed about the SAT score requirements. Can anyone tell me what kind of scores they're looking for or any helpful advice on this? Thanks!

Sure, happy to help! Stony Brook University is a moderately selective school, so while your SAT scores do play a role in your application, they're not the only factor. For the 2022 admitted class, the middle 50% SAT score range was between 1320 and 1460. This means that 25% of admitted students scored below 1320, 25% scored above 1460, and 50% scored in this range.

Keep in mind that these statistics are from before the SAT changed format. Although the content is similar, the structure and scoring of the new digital SAT have changed. There hasn't been updated official data released yet, but it's reasonable to assume scores in a similar range will still be competitive.

In addition to SAT scores, Stony Brook will evaluate your application based on your GPA, coursework, extracurricular activities, and other factors. So while it's important to aim for a competitive SAT score, you should not solely focus on it. Instead, work on maintaining a strong academic record and being involved in your extracurricular activities. Make sure your application showcases your strengths and interests in a balanced way.

Bear in mind that Stony Brook is currently test-optional, so if you aren't satisfied with your scores, you do not have to submit them with your application. Good luck with your application to Stony Brook University!
