Is a weighted GPA out of 4 or 5?

What's up everyone? I've been calculating my GPA, but there's something I'm not sure of. Is the weighted GPA scale out of 4 or out of 5? Can someone shed some light on this?

Hey! A weighted GPA can be on various scales but is most commonly on a 4.0 or a 5.0 scale. The scale used depends on your high school's grading system.

If your high school uses a 4.0 scale for unweighted GPA, they likely use a 5.0 scale for weighted GPA. In this system, regular classes still have a maximum GPA of 4.0, while honors classes can go up to 5.0 and AP/IB classes can go even higher, typically to 5.0 as well.

However, some schools may still use a 4.0 scale for both unweighted and weighted GPAs, in which case they increase the value of the grade you receive in honors, AP, or IB classes without changing the maximum possible GPA.

To be sure about your specific school's grading policy, I recommend checking with your high school counselor or reviewing your school's handbook. They'll be able to provide the most accurate information about your school's GPA scale.
