How do colleges view AP courses versus IB courses?

Hey guys! I'm a junior, and my high school offers both AP and IB courses. I'm wondering how colleges view these two types of classes when evaluating applicants. Do they have a preference for one over the other, or are they considered equally? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hey! My child went through a similar situation in high school, and we did a lot of research on this topic. In general, colleges view both AP and IB courses as rigorous and challenging, so taking either type of class will demonstrate your commitment to academic excellence. That being said, there might be slight differences in how colleges view them depending on the specific institution. Some schools might be more familiar with the AP curriculum, while others might have a stronger connection to the IB program. It's always a good idea to check the college's website or contact their admissions office to see if they have a preference. Ultimately, the most important thing is to choose the classes that you're genuinely interested in and feel you'll excel at. Colleges want to see that you've challenged yourself and have been successful in your chosen courses, whether they're AP or IB. Good luck with your decision!
