When to start writing supplements for Ivy League schools?

Hi, I'm a high school junior and I'm beginning the college application process for the Ivy League schools. I have the Common App essay figured out, but I'm not sure when to start working on the supplemental essays required by these schools. When would be a good time to begin writing them and how far in advance should I start? Thanks for any advice!

Hi there! It's great to hear that you are already thinking about the college application process. Tackling the Ivy League supplement essays can definitely benefit from early preparation. In general, it's a good idea to start brainstorming ideas and researching prompts during the summer before your senior year. This way, you'll have ample time to refine your essays and seek feedback before the fall semester starts.

Since many Ivy League schools release their supplemental essay prompts by August, you could use that month as a starting point to dive into the writing process. Just remember, it's important to strike a balance between starting early and not overwhelming yourself with too much work. Don't forget to seek assistance from resources like your school's college counselor, teachers, or even a professional admissions counselor if you need additional guidance. Best of luck on your journey!
