Is a 730 a good SAT score?

Hi guys! I recently took the SAT and got a 730. I'm not sure if this is a good score or not since I've heard that the average is around 1000. Will this be competitive enough when applying to decent colleges? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Hi there! A 730 on the SAT is below the average, as you've mentioned—the average SAT score falls between 1000-1100. However, it's important to remember that colleges review applications holistically, and your SAT score is just one component of your application.

While a 730 SAT score isn't extremely competitive on its own, your success in admissions will depend on how well you do in other areas of your application, such as your GPA, extracurricular activities, essays, and recommendation letters. Additionally, you'll want to target schools whose student profiles align with your SAT score. If you apply to schools where most admitted students have similar scores, your chances of being accepted could be higher.

It's also worth considering retaking the SAT if you believe you can improve your score. Many students see an increase in their score after taking the test again, especially if they invest in targeted test prep. However, keep in mind that some colleges are test-optional or test-blind due to recent changes in standardized testing policies, so you may not need a strong SAT score at every institution you're interested in.

Best of luck!
