University of California, Santa Cruz requirements?

Hey guys! I've been looking at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) and it's one of my dream schools. I was just wondering if anyone has any information on the admission requirements? I.e., GPA, test scores, course requirements. Thanks bunches!

Hey there! UC Santa Cruz is a great choice with a beautiful campus. As a part of the University of California system, UCSC follows the same general admission requirements for all UC campuses. Keep in mind that the UC system is test-blind for the 2024-2025 application cycle, meaning they do not consider SAT or ACT scores at all. Here are the basic requirements:

1. GPA: For California residents, a minimum 3.0 UC (weighted) GPA is required, while non-residents need a minimum 3.4 UC (weighted GPA. Remember that UCSC, like other UC campuses, can highly competitive, and many admitted students have GPAs above these minimums. For example, the middle 50% of UC GPAs for students admitted to UCSC is 3.86-4.22.

2. Course requirements (A-G requirements): To be eligible for admission to UCSC, you must complete the following coursework with a C grade or better:

- A: History/Social Science (2 years required)

- B: English (4 years required)

- C: Mathematics (3 years required, 4 years recommended)

- D: Laboratory Science (2 years required, 3 years recommended)

- E: Language Other Than English (2 years required, 3 years recommended) or demonstrated proficiency

- F: Visual and Performing Arts (1 year required)

- G: College-Preparatory Electives (1 year required)

3. Extracurriculars: While there isn't a fixed number of extracurricular activities you need to have, it's essential to demonstrate your passion and involvement in various activities outside of academics. Aim for quality over quantity and focus on activities that show commitment, leadership, and impact.

As UCSC uses a holistic admission process, other factors, such as your responses to the personal insight questions (essays), involvement in your community, volunteer work, and any awards you've received, will also play a role. Make sure to highlight these aspects in your application.

Good luck with your application to UCSC!
