Is a 24 ACT score considered good?

Hey guys! I just got my ACT scores back and I got a 24 composite score. Is this considered a good score for college admissions? Can I expect to get into decent schools with this score, or should I retake the test to try for a higher score? Thanks for any advice!

A 24 composite score on the ACT is considered an average score, as it falls close to the national average of around 21. This score will likely make you competitive at many colleges and universities, especially state schools and regional institutions. However, if you're aiming for more selective or prestigious institutions, you'll likely want to consider retaking the test to try to achieve a higher score.

Before retaking the test, it's essential to assess your target schools' expectations. Research the middle 50% ACT score range of students accepted into those schools and compare it to your current score. If your score falls within their range, you have a better chance of being considered. Keep in mind, though, that more selective schools typically look for scores in the upper 20s or low 30s.

If you decide to retake the ACT, be sure to give yourself enough time to prepare and review your weaker areas. There are numerous resources available, including practice tests and study guides, to help you improve and achieve your desired score. For example, CollegeVine's blog contains a series of posts focused on ACT prep specifically, such as this one for the science section: https://blog.collegevine.com/act-science-formulas/

Remember, too, that many colleges have moved to test-optional policies, so your ACT score isn't the sole determining factor in admissions decisions – other factors like your GPA, extracurricular activities, and essays will also play a role. If you want guidance on how to navigate test-optional policies, check out this blog post from CollegeVine: https://blog.collegevine.com/does-test-optional-mean-test-optional

Best of luck in your college admissions journey!
