Qualifications for the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship?

Hey everybody, I'm looking into the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship and I'm not quite sure about the qualifications for it. I know there are different levels, so what do I need to do to get the most from this scholarship program? Really appreciate any advice!

Hey there! The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program offers various types of scholarships depending on your academic achievements and requirements. There are three main awards under this program: Florida Academic Scholars (FAS), Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS), and the Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars (GSV). Here's a brief overview of the qualifications for each level.

1. Florida Academic Scholars (FAS):

- Complete a high school diploma or its equivalent

- Minimum 3.5 weighted GPA in a certain set of 16 core academic courses

- Complete 100 hours of volunteer service

- SAT or ACT scores (these requirements can change yearly, so check the Florida Student Scholarship & Grant Programs website for the current academic year's required scores)

2. Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS):

- Complete a high school diploma or its equivalent

- Minimum 3.0 weighted GPA in a certain set of 16 core academic courses

- Complete 75 hours of volunteer service

- SAT or ACT scores (again, check the website for the current academic year's required scores)

3. Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars (GSV):

- Complete a high school diploma or its equivalent

- Minimum 3.0 weighted GPA for both core academic and career education courses

- Complete 30 hours of volunteer service

- Complete at least three career education courses (within a single career/technical program) with a minimum 3.5 unweighted GPA

- Take the ACT, SAT, or the Florida Postsecondary Education Readiness Test (P.E.R.T.) with minimum test scores determined each year

Please note that these are just the basic qualifications for each level of the Florida Bright Futures Scholarship. There may be additional specific requirements for various colleges or universities, as well as deadlines and application details you should be aware of. I highly recommend checking the Florida Bright Futures website to get the most up-to-date and accurate information for the current academic year.

Remember to complete the Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA) to be considered for the scholarship, and don't forget to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as well. The FAFSA makes you eligible for institutional aid at the colleges you're applying to as well, and you can also consider other scholarships. Combining multiple sources of aid is often the best pathway to an affordable college experience.

Good luck!
