Will retaking a class impact my chances?

Hi everyone, I'm a high school junior, and I had to retake my pre-calculus class because I got a low grade the first time. How will colleges view this when reviewing my transcript? I'm looking to apply to schools like Georgetown and Emory, and I'm worried this might lower my chances. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hey there! Retaking a class can be viewed differently by colleges depending on the circumstances and whether you showed improvement. The most important thing to demonstrate is that you were able to learn from the experience and do better the second time around.

In your case, if your pre-calculus grade improved significantly when you retook it, this could actually be seen as a positive by admissions officers. It shows resilience and commitment to your education. But, it's still important to keep in mind that they'll be looking at your entire transcript and considering all aspects of your application like essays, extracurriculars, and test scores.

Just try your best to represent yourself well in those other areas, and maybe consider explaining the situation in the additional information section of your application. Focusing on what you learned and how you've grown from the experience can help admissions officers better understand the context of your retake in your academic journey!
